What the Easter Reading Intensive Is, and Who It Is For

Updated: Mar 22

Easter Reading Intensive 2026 at Think-Top Educational Institute in St. Augustine Trinidad. Two weeks of Orton-Gillingham literacy instruction for primary school students in Standards 2 and 3 struggling with reading.

The Easter break is short. Most families use it to rest, and that is reasonable. But for some families, rest is complicated by a concern that does not go away when the school year pauses.

Your child is in Standard 2 or Standard 3. Reading is still a struggle. Not a small, catching-up kind of struggle. The real kind. The kind where they guess words from the first letter. Where they avoid reading whenever they can find an excuse. Where they can get through a page and not tell you what it said. Where reading aloud is painful for everyone in the room.

You have been waiting for it to click. It has not clicked.

That is the child this programme was built for.

Alongside the literacy instruction, students will participate in guided robotics sessions led by our IT facilitator. Every day runs two tracks simultaneously. In the morning, structured Orton-Gillingham literacy work. In the afternoon, hands-on robot building and programming using the mBlock platform.

The two tracks are not separate. The same words that appear on the literacy side, transform, patient, discover, independent, are the words that anchor each robotics session. Children are not switching between two unrelated activities. They are working through the same ideas in two different languages.

What the Easter Reading Intensive Is

Think-Top's Easter Reading Intensive runs March 30 to April 10, 2026. It is a full-day, two-week programme for primary school students in Standards 2 and 3. The cohort is capped at six students. It runs during the holiday break, excluding Easter Weekend.

This is not general tutoring. It is not a review of what was covered in class. It is structured, diagnostic-led literacy instruction aimed at identifying the root of a child's reading difficulty and beginning to correct it.

Every child who enters the programme begins with a reading profile on Day 1. We assess before we teach. That is not a marketing phrase. It is how we actually operate. We do not assume we know what is wrong. We find out. Then we build instruction around what we find.

How It Works

The programme uses the Orton-Gillingham method, a structured, multisensory approach to literacy instruction developed specifically for students who have not responded to standard classroom teaching. It is systematic, sequential, and individually designed. Each child's instruction is shaped by their specific reading profile, not by a standard programme applied to everyone in the room.

Full days run from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm across seven instructional days. The programme observes public holidays: Spiritual Baptist Liberation Day on March 30, Good Friday on April 3, and Easter Monday on April 6. The first day of instruction is Tuesday March 31.

Morning sessions cover phonics and decoding, reading fluency and comprehension, vocabulary, written expression, and language work using the Orton-Gillingham method. Afternoon sessions move into robotics: building, wiring, coding, and testing a working robot using the mBlock programming platform.

On the final day, every family receives a written progress report. It covers where your child started, what was worked on, what progress was made, and what to continue developing. You do not leave with a vague sense that something happened. You leave with documentation.

Who This Is For

This programme is designed for families who recognise that their child needs more than the school term has been providing. It is not for children who are mildly behind. It is for children who are genuinely struggling, and for parents who are ready to do something structured about it during a window when that kind of attention is possible.

It is also for children who may have been waiting for a diagnosis before anyone took action. You do not need a formal diagnosis to enrol. You need a child who is struggling and a parent who has decided that waiting is no longer the plan.
